This is robfrumkin come here, I'm going to show you how to put text from a Word document while keeping all its formatting and keeping the footnotes here. And the little numbers in the text first of all the footnotes need to go to the end, because we want them as end notes. So we go insert footnote convert all footnotes to end notes. So if we do that, we've got them at the end here, but also they've changed to Roman numerals.
And we want them as normal numbers. So we go back into insert footnote. And click on add notes and then change the format to one two three and apply that. So now not only are the end notes all numbers 1 to 11 also the numbers that they refer to in the text, or in the correct format in superscript. And we want to keep all that as we take this into InDesign, obviously, if we just copy and paste, then we'd lose all the formatting.
So next thing we do is just safe it as an RTF that's, not essential that you do that. It does get rid of some of Microsoft's extra character and. Paragraph styles when you import it into InDesign.
So we go into InDesign and draw in a text box. Here I've got one here already on the master page do command or control D or file place and clicks show import options and select the RTF we just made. And then as you can see, we've selected end notes, we don't have to select footnotes, and we import those automatically. This means we'll import the bones, the italics superscripts and all sorts of other stuff that you want to keep with your text.
Okay in it. Comes with all the formatting and all the end notes and all the numbers and everything that we want to keep obviously it's coming with a font that we haven't got because it's coming with the Microsoft Scott styles. But all we need to do is get our paragraph styles, select all and choose our style.
And we do that with one click on the paragraph styles. We don't do an option click to override because then we'll lose the formatting, but we've got all the formatting. Now we've got the little numbers for. The end notes, the images come in at the correct fade places, obviously, well we'll, get rid of them and put them back in when we want, but the bolds are all still there. And obviously we need to flow it on to the subsequent pages.
But then here are our end notes all with the correct numbers as well. So we don't hardly have to do any additional formatting, even the links to the web pages come in the right style. Thank you very much. Bye. You.
